Through The Lens with Rabbi Eric Walker – New Years Blessings!

 

The Lord wants to do a new thing in our lives. We should be willing to forget the past and get ready to enter into the future that the Lord has prepared for us. We should put the past failures and disappointments and sorrows behind us. This is a new day and a new year and a new opportunity that the Lord is giving us. We must make full use of this opportunity and be willing a experience new changes in our lives even though they may be unfamiliar to us.

ISAIAH 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

ISAIAH 42:9 See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.”

The Lord wants to fill us with the new wine of His Spirit and anointing. But we must become a new wineskin before God would pour out His new wine into our lives.

He will not pour out His new wine if we remain an old wineskin because it would destroy our life. Let us become new wineskins and receive the new wine that God wants to pour out in our lives. Often we want God to change others and to change circumstances. But God wants to change us first and then we will experience a corresponding change in others and in our circumstances.

MATTHEW 9:14-17
Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.”No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

The Lord wants to give us a new name and reputation and honor for all the shame we endured. Especially in the lives of those of us who have faced much shame and ridicule and humiliation God wants to bring new blessings and honor in our lives. He will change our reputation from being known as forsaken and desolate people. Instead we will be called people whom God has blessed. We will be called by a new name which reflects our new elevation.

ISAIAH 62:2,4,12 The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will bestow. No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD will take delight in you, and your land will be married. They will be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the LORD; and you will be called Sought After, the City No Longer Deserted….

ISAIAH 61:9 Their descendants will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed.”

The Lord wants to give us a new song of thanksgiving and praise for His mighty deliverance. We should no longer sing the songs of want and worry and complaining. Instead our mouths must be filled with thanksgiving and praise unto God. The Lord will perform marvelous works in our lives and fill our mouths with a new song of praise unto Him.

PSALM 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.

PSALM 98:1-3 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

The Lord wants to fill with new strength and power. We may have become tired and weary and discouraged. But the Lord wants us to come and wait in His presence. As we worship Him and pour out our hearts before Him and meditate on His promises, He will fill us with a fresh strength and energy which will enable us to carry out our tasks and face our challenges easily. A little child may find it difficult to lift a big chair. But the same child when it grows and becomes an adult will find it easy to lift the same chair because the child has now grown bigger and stronger than the chair.

Similarly when God transforms us and strengthens us we become bigger than our problems and can tackle it easily

ISAIAH 40:29-31 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

The Lord wants to give us new mercy everyday in our lives. It is His mercy that has sustained and protected us so far. The Lord delivers us from destruction and crowns us with loving-kindness and tender mercies. He is merciful to our sins and iniquities and forgives all our transgressions. We need not keep carrying the load of guilt of our past sins and failures. We can receive the mercy of the Lord and the forgiveness of all our sins and we can face our future with complete confidence.

LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.

PSALM 103:4 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercies,

HEBREWS 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more

The Lord wants to give us a new heart and spirit to obey His commandments and walk in His ways. The Lord wants us to be a new creation in Messiah reflecting His righteousness and holiness. The Lord has given us a new commandment to love one another and forgive and forget all past hurts. The Lord wants to lift us to a new level of piety. He wants to remove the stony heart from us and give us a new heart and put a new spirit within us. The stony heart prevents the seed of the word of God from producing fruit in our life. The new heart and new spirit helps us to obey the commandments of God and do His will. The Lord wants to give us a new personality to enable to be all that He wants us to be. God wants us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.

EZEKIEL 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

EZEKIEL 11:19-20 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

EPHESIANS 4:24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

COLOSSIANS 3:10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

JOHN 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

ROMANS 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is— his good, pleasing and perfect will.

PHILIPPIANS 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

“A New Year, A New Beginning”
The old year ends, a new begins With pages clean and new;
And what is written on each page will now depend on you.
You can’t relive the year that’s past, Erasing every wrong;
For once a year – or day – is spent,
It is forever gone.
But don’t give up in dark despair If you have failed some test;
Seek God’s forgiveness and resolve Henceforth to do your best.

Resolve each precious day to do Things good and kind and pure;
Though days and years may pass away, These things shall still endure.
You know not where your path may lead Nor what’s beyond the hill;
But know that God walks at your side, If you will do His will.
All things are possible with God, Though days be bright or dim;
So do your best and know that you Can leave the rest to Him.
